Town Treasurer

The Town Treasurer receives, keeps and pays out the town's money and manages its borrowing. The office was elected at town meeting (for one-year terms, and three-year terms from the late 1940s) until about 1980, when it became an appointed post. In 1989 it was combined with the Collector of Taxes as the Treasurer/Tax Collector. For many years the Treasurer was also the Town Clerk: Dudley Foster held both offices from 1855 to 1895, and Herbert A. King from 1900 to 1917.
